Bob Roberts has kindly sent a gallery of pictures taken by him whilst the build of Robinson Race Cars customer and former Outlaw Anglia racer Pete Moore's '34 Ford took place at Eurodragster.com sponsor Robinson Race Cars during the period October 2013 - October 2015.

Bob writes: Way back in 1980 I volunteered to help organise the Nationals rod run at Thruxton created and supported by Hot Rod and Custom magazine. Also involved was Tony Thacker, now a star at the BDRHoF Annual Dinner, but then the Technical Editor at HR&C. Other volunteers included Andy Robinson, who ran our 100 yard drags, and Pete Moore. Both were involved in subsequent Internationals including the final one at Stoneleigh in 1983. The star of the last run was the ZZ Top Eliminator 34 Coupe. Little did we know at the time that thirty some odd years later Pete would commission Andy to build a 34 coupe.

In essence the plan was to marry a coupe body with the running gear from a Vauxhall VXR8. If you say it quickly it sounds easy.

The starting point was a set of repro frame rails which were tied together with a series of tubular cross members. The back portion of the frame was completely removed to allow for a tubular framework which not only supported the body but provided location for the suspension. The VXR donated diff, drive shafts and uprights, everything else is RRC designed and built including the high tensile stainless wishbones. There is more stainless at the front although the uprights here are Corvette C6 with electric power steering twirled by a Flaming River column.

The power plant is also from the VXR with an MSD Atomic fuel injection system. This is backed up by a 4L80E transmission with a paddle shift option. Exhaust gases exit via stainless system.

This is by no means a traditional 34, no cart springs and no beam axles, but it is fast, it corners, it stops, it rides well, its comfortable and above all it looks great. Truly a street rod for the 20's.
